CAMP MURCIÉLAGO

Climate change threatens every part of the planet.

The beautiful coastlines of Puerto Rico are no exception!

Help us protect and preserve our coastal heritage in the face of climate change and development.

We aim to keep Puerto Rico’s beaches open, public, and free, for all its people, for all time! #LasPlayasSonDelPueblo

Our mission is organizing and educating Puerto Ricans, visitors to the island, and the broader Puerto Rican diaspora in order to meet the goals of defending, conserving, opening, and democratizing the coastal ecosystems of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico’s free and open public beaches are being illegally privatized.

We are a community of activists pushing back against beach privatization. Illegal coastal construction makes Puerto Rico more vulnerable to the threats of climate change and erodes the civil rights of Puerto Ricans to access public land.

We are Beach Defenders

What are we protecting? La Cueva del Indio Nature Reserve

Camp Murciélago - Beach Defenders, was first founded to protect the sacred indigenous Taíno archaeological sites on the northern coastline of Puerto Rico from destruction by tourism investment and private developers. But we are now part of a movement that spans the entire Puerto Rican archipelago.
